Founded around Dave McPhillips, a former member of The Coronas, Echo Canto came to be in Dublin in 2022 and quickly wrote their first song ‘Disorder!’

The striking viola lines, bowed by Elspeth Hanson of Bond Quartet, an electric string quartet who have crossed the threshold of selling almost five million albums worldwide. You may also hear Els presenting on RTÉ Lyric FM.

On drums and percussion there’s Ben Cooper, ever tasteful in creating the appropriate backbone for the group. Ben is band leader of a jazz project ‘Big Brothers’.

Alongside Ben, there’s Bass guitarist Graham Heaney, trained in jazz they create quite the delightful duo.

Dave Pyro of Republic of Loose, brings his classy, blues and soul influenced guitar stylings and also lays down a trumpet melody where required.

Releasing her debut L.P. Form & Fall in 2020, Niamh Lowe, The Danger is & former Spring Break lead woman completes the band’s sound.

Dave Pyro & Niamh are also both visual artists, choosing to shoot imagery for upcoming releases and promo photography by Glen Bollard in CAMÁN and CO. graphic studio.

This exciting group of musicians create a powerful blend of classical and contemporary rock/pop tunes with blues and jazz influences. The first phase of songs were written by Dave McPhillips with production further developed with Hozier soundman Gav Muddiman and Dave Pyro. This resulted in the release of the E.P. PATCHWORK. These songs arrived from Dave McPhillips written on piano and acoustic guitar.

Newer projects have already evolved with a more collaborative creative approach influencing the soundscape. New songs are due to be released in Summer 2024. With 2023/2024 Sold Out shows at Dublin venues Soundhouse and Workmans Cellar under their belt, Echo Canto’s adventure is only beginning.
